Companhia Energética de Petrolina (CEP)
was created in 2002, for investment of US$100 million, in
response to the electricity supply deficits occurring in
Brazil at that time - bringing the Coimex Group, along with
other stockholders, into the energy sector, for the first
time.
An entirely greenfield project, CEP is an up-to-the-minute
thermal electricity generation power plant with capacity
for 128MW - enough to supply a city of 500,000 people. It
is regarded as a model enterprise among the new Brazilian
power plants, as well as making an important contribution
to the economic and social development of Brazil's Northeast.
It came into operation in 2003, adding its efficient contribution
to the Brazilian National Grid as a complementary supplier
guaranteeing continuity, quality and economic feasibility
to the supply of energy to the whole country.
