This multi-use port terminal, which
will expand the capacity of the port of Santos by 10%, will
cost R$ 181 million in infrastructure alone. Empresa Brasileira
de Terminais Portuários was created in 1998 to build and
operate Brazil's largest private-sector multiple-use port
terminal, equipped with capacity to handle all customs regimes
and operate handling, storage and transport connections
for all types of import and export consignments and transactions.
The new port is structured to operate in an area of 1 million
m˛, containing a port terminal and warehousing, handling
and distribution facilities for a wide range of merchandise,
including vehicles, general cargo, and solid and liquid
bulk commodities.
With the maritime, highway and railroad access available
to Santos, EMBRAPORT will be able to operate as a multi-modal
hub, offering its clients the best available levels of productivity,
efficiency and costs, due to the high degree of automation
installed in all its systems - from handling of cargo to
the administrative, management and control functions.
The EMBRAPORT project has been through public hearings,
and is now in the process of acquiring functional licensing
and authorization from the Brazilian national environmental
authority (Ibama*), the National Heritage Office (SPU) and
the National Waterways Transport Agency (ANTAQ).
